Note: Chanter holes are indicated with a pair of numbers.   The first number in the pair indicates the number of front tone holes while the second indicates whether or not a thumbhole exists.  R and L refer to the player's right and left hands.


NMM 2349.    Gaita gallega, Galicia, Spain, ca. 1840.   Single conical chanter, 330 mm long, toneholes 7/1 with three vent holes.   One drone in three sections, 805 mm long.   Blowpipe, 210 mm long.   Hide bag.   Double reed in chanter, single reed in drone.   Board of Trustees, 1977.


NMM 1270.    Dudy (Bock), Bohemia, ca. 1850.   Single cylindrical chanter, 6/1 with one vent hole.   Drone and chanter with cow-horn bells.   Leather and wood bellows.   Single reed in chanter.   Arne B. Larson Collection, 1979.


NMM 2288.    Bagpipe, Bohemia, ca. 1850.   Chanter missing.   Single drone in two sections, decorated with pewter and bone, 360 mm long.   Suede bag.   Reeds missing.   Gift of William E. Gribbon, Greenfield, Massachusetts, 1977.


NMM 2289.    Dudy (Bock), Bohemia, ca. 1850.   Single cylindrical chanter, 225 mm long, including tenon (bell section missing); toneholes 6/1 with vent hole.   One drone in two sections, 530 mm long (bell section missing).   Blowpipe, 120 mm long.   Hide bag.   Single reeds in chanter and drone.   Gift of William E. Gribbon, Greenfield, Massachusetts, 1977.


NMM 2366.  Diple, Croatia (Dalmatian coast), ca. 1900.   Double cylindrical chanter (dual bore in 1 block), 193 mm long including tenon, R 6/0, L 2/0, one vent hole per side.   Blowpipe missing.   Hide bag.   Chanter carved with human face.   Single reeds in chanter and drone.   Board of Trustees, 1978.


NMM 2341.    Gayda, Bulgaria, ca. 1975.   Conical chanter (including tenon), 262 mm long, toneholes 7/1.   One drone in three sections (including tenon), 577 mm long.   Blowpipe, 190 mm long.   Goatskin bag.   Horn chanter stock.   Single reeds in chanter and drone.   Gift of Mrs. Newman, Sofia, Bulgaria, 1975.


NMM 2747.    Bagpipe (toy), India, ca. 1975.   Single cylindrical chanter, 135 mm long, toneholes 5/0.   Single drone, 158 mm long.   Blowpipe, 23 mm long.   Balloon bag.   Single reeds in chanter and drone.   Board of Trustees, 1981.


NMM 9759.    Bagpipe (toy), India, ca. 1975.   Single cylindrical chanter, 207 mm long, toneholes 4/0.   Single drone, 230 mm long.   Blowpipe, 22 mm long.   Balloon bag.   Chanter reed missing, single reed in drone.   Board of Trustees, 1981.
