Annotated Checklist of Clarinets Made for Distribution by
Rudall, Carte & Co., London

NMM 6009. Clarinet in C (high pitch) by Otto Karl Nürnberger, Markneukirchen, for distribution by Rudall, Carte & Co., London, 1903. Four sections. Stamped on upper joint: [crown] / RUDALL / CARTE & Co / 23 BERNERS STREET / OXFORD STREET / LONDON / 5172; on barrel, lower joint, and bell: [crown] / RUDALL CARTE & Co / LONDON. Number 5172. Cocus, metal ferrules. Simple system. Twelve German-silver keys and two rings (brille); rod and post key mounts. Brille on lower joint second and third tone holes. Independent g-sharp' key. Length (top of barrel to bottom of bell):  505 mm. Mouthpiece of cocus, stamped as barrel. Originally sold to  D. Wilkes, Ewell, England, according to Rudall, Carte & Co. records. William J. Maynard Collection, 1996.


NMM 7415. Clarinet in A (high pitch) by Fernand Chapelain & Cie, La Couture, for distribution by Rudall, Carte & Co. Ltd., London, 1911. Four sections. Stamped on upper joint: [crown] / RUDALL / CARTE & Co LTD / 23 BERNERS STREET / OXFORD STREET / LONDON / 5740; on barrel, lower joint, and bell: [crown] / RUDALL / CARTE & Co LTD / LONDON. Number 5740. Cocus, metal ferrules. Simple system. Twelve German-silver keys and two rings (brille); rod and post key mounts. Brille on lower joint second and third tone holes. Independent g-sharp' key. Patent c-sharp on lower joint. Length (top of barrel to bottom of bell):  604 mm. Originally sold to "Thurston" on January 10, 1912, according to company records. William J. Maynard Collection, 1999.
