NMM 4262. Flute in C by William Whiteley, Utica, New York, ca. 1810-1853. Conical. Four sections. Stamped on head joint and upper joint: [star pattern] / WHITELEY / UTICA. Boxwood with ivory end cap and ferrules. One brass key. Total length, 23-3/4" (605 mm). Arne B. Larson Collection, 1979.


NMM 3861. Composite flute in D with parts by Meacham & Pond, Albany, New York, ca. 1821-1832, and Firth & Hall, New York, ca. 1828-1832. Conical. Four sections. Stamped on head joint and upper joint: MEACHAM / & POND / ALBANY; stamped on heart piece and foot joint: FIRTH & HALL / N. YORK. Boxwood with ivory ferrules (end cap missing). One brass key. Total length, 23-1/2" (597 mm). Arne B. Larson Collection, 1979.


NMM 5277. Flute in C by Pond & Company, Albany, ca. 1825-1828. Conical. Four sections. Stamped on all joints: POND & Co / ALBANY. Boxwood with ivory end cap and ferrules. Four brass keys. Total length, 23-5/8" (600 mm). Purchase funds gift of Mary Ann and Dennis Knutson, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, 1992.


NMM 2818. Flute in C by Meacham & Pond, Albany, ca. 1828-1832. Conical. Four sections. Stamped on all joints: MEACHAM & POND / ALBANY. Boxwood with ivory end cap and ferrules. One brass key. Total length, 23-3/4" (603 mm). Gift of Arne B. Larson, Vermillion, South Dakota, 1981.


NMM 4920. Fife in C by Meacham & Pond, Albany, ca. 1828-1832. Conical. One piece. Stamped on body: MEACHAM / & POND / ALBANY. Boxwood with brass ferrules. Total length, 14-3/4" (373 mm). Board of Trustees, 1990.


NMM 1359. Flute by J. D. Douglas, Utica, ca. 1833-1837. Four sections (heart piece missing). Stamped on all joints: J. D. Douglas. Boxwood with ivory end cap and ferrules. One brass key. Total length, indeterminable. Gift of David W. Clark, Spearfish, South Dakota, 1975.


NMM 3084. Flute in F by Edward Hopkins, Troy, New York, ca. 1839-1866. Conical. Four sections. Stamped on head joint, upper joint, and heart piece: HOPKINS / TROY. Boxwood with ivory ferrules. One silver key. Total length, 18-12/" (470 mm). W. Wayne Sorensen Collection, 1982.


NMM 4269. Flute in C by Earnest Deffner, Mineola, New York, ca. 1934-1972. Serial no. B1545. Romain Braude line. Boehm system, closed hole, C foot. Three sections. Stamped on head joint under embouchure plate: ROMAIN BRAUDE; stamped on bottom of head joint: B1545; stamped on head joint, under tenon: C; stamped on body at socket: Made in U. S. A. Nickel-silver plated. Fifteen nickel-silver keys. Total length, 26" (660 mm). Arne B. Larson Collection, 1979.


NMM 10001. Flute in C by Folkers and Powell, Hudson, New York, 2000. Conical. Tromlitz system. Four sections with one alternate foot joint to extend the register. Stamped on all joints: FOLKERS / & POWELL. African blackwood with artificial ivory mounts and end cap. Eight silver keys with D foot: c, B-flat, alternate B-flat key for right hand, G-sharp, long F, short F, and two keys to distinguish D-sharp from E-flat. Nine silver keys with C foot: c, B-flat, alternate B-flat key for right hand, G-sharp, long F, short F, D-sharp, low C-sharp, and low C. Historical reproduction based on a design by Johann George Tromlitz (1796). USD purchase, 2000.
