The Precision Bass revolutionized the electrification of basses with its short scale in 1951. It was intended to be played like a guitar rather than as an upright bass, freeing the performer to explore different fingerings. In the early 1980s, Fender moved the production of some instruments to Japan, where this bass was made. The serial number, beginning with JV, indicates that the instrument was part of their Japan Vintage line.
