NMM 4207. Violin, Markneukirchen and/or Schönbach (Luby), ca. 1880-1900. Printed paper label: Jacobus Stainer in Absam / prope Oenipontum 1665. Brand (double strike) on back, below button, the lettering curved downward at each end: SCHWEITZER. Top: two-piece, quarter-cut spruce, wide grain. Back: two-piece, quarter-cut maple with faint, narrow curl, descending slightly from center joint. Arching: full, symmetrical arching rises abruptly at edge and flattens out at center. Gift of Thomas M. Engeman, Sibley, Iowa, 1988.
